Do Your Research & Get Ready For Tryouts

As we get ready for club season, it’s important for players and families – from those just starting to those who’ve played for several years – to know what they need to do.  Take a moment to read through this brief article and get ready for the season.

Dates:  Girls’ players defined as a 14-year-old or younger by USAV may begin tryouts on November 5.  Players defined as 15-year-old or older may begin tryouts on November 12.  If the player might be age waivered, they still need to try out with their legally defined age group.  Clubs should never be promising or guaranteeing a player that an age waiver will be granted.

Do Your Homework:  If you aren’t sure what club you’re going to play for, or try out for, do your homework well ahead of time.  Many clubs hold tryouts at the same time, on the same day.  Research clubs in your area by checking our girls’ club directory and boys’ club directory.  E-mail or call club directors and ask questions (both club directories have long lists of questions you should ask).  Know what age group your athlete qualifies for.  Have a game plan going into tryout weekends.  Know what tryouts to attend well before tryouts start.

Read Our Parent Guide:  It’s a great resource with advice for parents.  Check it out here.

Get A Tryout Membership:  Remember that memberships are non-refundable.  A tryout membership costs $15, and you can apply that cost to the cost of a full membership once the athlete commits to a team.  Check our membership page for more info.

Learn About Scholarships:  The CEVA Athlete Success Fund (CASF) has opportunities for student-athletes to apply for financial assistance.  Applications are open now and are due on November 19.  Learn more here.

Learn About CEVA:  It’s important to understand what CEVA does and doesn’t control.  It’s also good to know more about our organization, our values, and our mission

You’re welcome to e-mail us with any questions.
