Rachel Irvin Named "Silent Hero" Award Winner

By CEVA, 05/07/23, 10:00AM PDT

Rachel Irvin has been selected as the 2023 recipient of the Cindy Leatherberry “Silent Hero” award.

Irvin was nominated by multiple members of Axiom Volleyball Club.  She is the club’s director of fundraising, mental strength training, a board member, and a coach.  Irvin has worked to create opportunities for underprivileged youth within the club and created a mental strength training program for over 100 club athletes, spearheading the program because she “knew there was a need for it and recognized the struggles young athletes have mentally while playing sports, and in their lives in general.”  She joined Axiom’s board last year.

The Cindy Leatherberry "Silent Hero" Award recognizes an administrator or other club member who goes above and beyond, behind the scenes, to make the season a success for their club.  Previous winners of this award have included travel coordinators, chaperones, fundraisers, accountants, and others who might not ordinarily be the "face" of a club.  Recognizing these individuals are just as important to the experience for players and families, this award is given annually in the CEVA region.

We know there are many “Silent Heroes” in clubs throughout the region, and we thank all of them for their dedication to the sport and to the student-athletes they serve.  The region and our programming wouldn’t be what it is without the tireless work of so many club directors, administrators, board members, coaches, and others.

Cindy Leatherberry was a long-time Portland Volleyball Club administrator and became a friend to many both in PVC and CEVA.  Her 18 years of service to the region's members will not soon be forgotten by those who knew her.
