The CEVA Officials’ Committee has launched the Junior Officials’ Program, with the goal of recruiting interested 16- through 18-year-old juniors to receive high-quality officiating training from the region’s top officials.
CEVA has placed a renewed focus on recruitment of new officials this season, as a shortage of officials across the country (in all sports) has drastically impacted the quality of experience for players, coaches, and spectators. While all ages are welcome to join our officiating cadre, the region has put increased focus on recruiting younger members.
The Junior Officials’ Program will allow members to receive training at the first weekend of the CEVA Regional Championships – April 29-30 – at the Portland Expo Center. After the training, members may be invited to work at the Willamette Volleyball Classic on May 13-14, also at the Portland Expo Center, as a regular paid member of the CEVA officials’ cadre.
Officiating provides a great source of additional income and schedules are always flexible. CEVA is lucky to have some of the nation’s top officials call our region home, and they’ve shown a commitment to give back to the sport by training the next generation of officials.
Officiating skills are also transferable to anywhere in the country. Juniors who receive their training here can use those skills no matter where they end up for college or after high school. CEVA can connect interested individuals with their local USAV region office.
