The Columbia Empire Volleyball Association has announced tryout dates for the 2023-2024 season.
Junior boys’ teams & clubs may legally begin tryouts on Sunday, October 1st. This date encompasses all age groups and divisions for junior boys in the CEVA region.
Junior girls’ clubs & athletes defined as 14 and under (by USAV age definitions) may begin tryouts on Sunday, November 5th.
Junior girls’ clubs & athletes defined as 15 and older (by USAV age definitions) may begin tryouts on Sunday, November 12th.
Dates for tryouts are determined by the Junior Boys’ Committee & Junior Girls’ Committee, based on several factors, including precedent, conflicts with high school events, and timing of season starts.
Athletes who plan to be age-waivered down to a lower age group must still try out with their USAV defined age groups. They may not try out with their potential age-waivered group.
The region will have a Tryout Information Form on the website over the Summer that clubs may use to submit information to the region for posting on the website, as well as confirmation of sanctioning. The region will announce club activation dates and membership sale dates in the near future.
As of the 2022-2023 season, the prohibition on clubs running camps, clinics, or private lessons in the week leading up to tryouts (commonly known as “dead week”) has been removed. Clubs may run activities freely up to the legal start of tryouts.
Athletes, families, and parents are strongly encouraged to do their homework leading up to tryouts to find the best fit for their athletes. Remember – several clubs will run tryouts at the same or similar times on the start dates, so it is incumbent on families to have conversations with club directors prior to tryouts to find the best fit for their situation.
