CEVA has announced a partnership with the Multnomah County SUN Community Schools program and Self-Enhancement, Inc. (SEI) to conduct a series of after-school volleyball classes and clinics in the Portland area.  Working directly with the SEI staff, CEVA will help produce programming for elementary-aged youth in up to 12 schools in Multnomah County.  A large percentage of participants will be students from minority, low-income, and historically under-served populations.

Clinics will take place on two afternoons per week for one hour each, as part of a larger curriculum that students can sign up for.  CEVA will utilize coaches from around the region to take part in the program as a way to give back to the community – including members of the CEVA Board of Directors and various standing committees.

Coaches who participate in this program may be eligible for a number of incentives from the region, including a complimentary 2021-2022 membership, a complimentary membership to the Art of Coaching Volleyball, or consideration for grant money to offset costs of attending the AVCA Convention.  Coaches interested in participating can visit www.cevaregion.org/sei

As part of the program, CEVA will make a significant investment in volleyball equipment for the clinics, that will be donated back to the programs and the youth they serve once the series is complete.  Support for this aspect of the program comes from Dick’s Sporting Goods and Baden Sports.

The SUN Community Schools program helps create neighborhood hubs in schools where kids and families can find resources they need to be successful in school and life.  The program brings partners together to provide instructional programs, enrichment & recreation activities, educational support, and other events.  Many sites have on-site pantries, connections to mental health services, and clinics.  More information on the SUN Community Schools program can be found at http://www.multco.us/sun/sun-community-schools

SEI’s mission is to guide underserved youth to realize their full potential.  The organization works to provide support for youth to achieve personal and academic success.  CEVA will work directly with SEI’s staff to provide quality volleyball instruction as part of their enrichment programming within the SUN Community Schools after-school program.  More information on SEI can be found at http://www.selfenhancement.org
