USA Volleyball’s Board of Directors today announced approval for a change to the age definitions governing USAV-sanctioned events, effective for the 2020-2021 season.  This change is in accordance with motions passed by both the Regional Volleyball Association Assembly (RVAA) and the USA Volleyball Junior Assembly.

The junior age definition for each age group was adjusted to a start date of July 1st.  The date had previously been September 1st.

Additionally, a national waiver has been added allowing girls 18s, who are in their junior year of high school, to compete on a 17s team.  This was previously only allowed in certain regions.

The change to July 1st allows more junior student-athletes to compete with like-grade competition.  The national waiver for juniors in high school opens up more summer collegiate recruiting opportunities, since 18s teams generally end their seasons earlier.

This change does not impact when memberships can be purchased.  Memberships for the new season still will be purchased starting in September.  Please note that we are still competing in the 2019-2020 season as of this writing, and the 2020-2021 season begins officially on September 1st.

The new age definition chart for the 2020-2021 season can be found on our website.
